Topic: Page to Stage: 17th Century French Comedy, Text and Performance. This
senior seminar will focus on comedy in the seventeenth century. Plays of
Corneille and Molière, as well as examples of their less well-known
contemporaries, will be examined, with consideration of how they function
on the stage and of theatrical practice of the seventeenth century. The
plays read will include farces, pastoral comedies, comedies of manners and
of character, as well as comédies-ballets.

And a small course packet of other plays not easily available.
