Germanic Languages | Deutsch: Mittelstufe I
G300 | 2610-2611 | Holschuh & Staff
Three credit hour course; multiple sections.
Prerequisite: G250 or G106 with a minimum grade of C-.
In preparation for more advanced work in language, literature and culture,
this course concentrates on a sound foundation in all language skills
including near-native pronunciation, conversation and writing. Such a high
goal demands considerable self-discipline on the part of the instructors and
students alike. Evaluation is broadly based: four 45-min. examinations
including the final, six take-home writing assignments, regular grammar
homework and very short reading quizzes in addition to classroom
participation.
Each student should own a good German-English / English-German dictionary,
such as Langenscheidt or the Oxford Duden. It should follow the new
orthography, revised in 1998.
