Germanic Languages | Deutsch: Mittelstufe II
G330 | 2613-2615 | Staff

Three credit hour course; multiple sections.

Prerequisite: G300 with a minimum grade of C-.

This course employs discussions of cultural issues of contemporary Germany as
a vehicle for the development of language skills. It continues to expand the
student's command of German beyond previous, intermediate-level work and to
prepare them for upper-level courses for a major or minor in German. Students
will work with a variety of cultural and literary texts and films. Topics of
discussion will include youth culture, reunification of Germany, and
Americanization of the German-speaking world. Language practice will focus on
helping students to express their ideas in both speaking and writing in a
manner consistent with advanced language work. A typical week will include a
written essay assignment, active discussion of a variety of topics, and a
selective grammar review. Each student should own a good German-English /
English-German dictionary; recommended (but not required) is Langenscheidt's
New College German Dictionary. The best and least expensive one-volume German-
German dictionaries are Wahrig's W”rterbuch der deutschen Sprache and the
Duden Deutsches Universalw”rterbuch.
