CLASS MEETING:
Meets one time per week for 2 hours and 30 minutes.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Designed as an in-depth study of the various problems confronting an
athletic
trainer.  These vicarious experiences are developed through lectures,
demonstrations, and discussions with authorities in respective areas of
concern.  Some of these topics include:

ADMINISTRATION OF ATHLETIC TRAINING IN HIGH SCHOOL
CLINICAL AND PROFESSIONAL SETTINGS
PSYCHOLOGY OF ATHLETIC TRAINING
MEDICAL EVALUATION FOR ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION
STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING APPLICATIONS
ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT IN ATHLETICS
NUTRITIONAL ASPECTS RELATED TO ATHLETICS
EYE INJURIES, VISUAL PROBLEMS, VISION SCREENING
DENTAL INJURIES AND PROBLEMS
ORTHOPEDIC AND NEUROLOGICAL INVOLVEMENTS IN ATHLETICS
COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE OF STUDENT ATHLETES
BLOOD PATHOGENS AND ITS IMPLICATIONS TO THE ATHLETIC TRAINER
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING GUIDELINES FOR ATHLETE PARTICIPATION
MANUAL THERAPY TECHNIQUES

REQUIRED TEXTS:
None.  Selected readings from current periodicals.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Each student is responsible for writing two paper concerning actual
orthopedic surgery
observations as to discussed guidelines.  Also, abstracts are assigned to be
written for certain
course topics.

EVALUATION:
Teacher evaluation for mid-term paper.
Teacher evaluation for certain topical abstracts.
Mid-term examination (written)
Final examination (written).
