CLASS MEETING:
One - one hour and 40 minute class one time per week.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A basic introduction to the martial arts, including Karate, Hapkido,
Jujustu, Judo, Aikido, Kung-
Fu, Boxing and Wrestling.  Students will learn the core concepts of each
art, and thus gain a
working understanding of what the martial arts are all about, as well as the
differences between
them.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1.   To educate students about the variety of martial arts.
2.   To help students choose among the martial arts available on campus.

CLASS PATTERN:
One 1 hour and 40 minute session per week, including lecture, video, films,
and demonstration of
the martial arts covered.

READING:
Kinko's xeroxes of introduction to the various arts, competition rules and
brief commentaries by
influential masters.

GRADING:
There will be three (3) quizzes throughout the semester, consisting of
multiple choice questions.
Each of these will count 20% of your final grade.  There will be a
comprehensive final exam
(multiple choice) that will count 40% of your final grade.

ATTENDANCE:
Students are allowed a maximum of three (3) absences.  Upon a fourth absence
the student has
three (3) options:
1.   Receive a grade of F;
2.   Officially withdraw from the course;
3.   Follow an appeal procedure through your instructor and/of the Elective
Program
Coordinator.
