CLASS MEETING:
One 75 minute period two times per week

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Exploration and examination of theoretical foundations and basic skills,
methods
and techniques necessary to deliver a recreational sport program within a
variety of
settings and/or organizations.

COURSE GOALS:
To gain an understanding of the basic competencies required to program
recreational sports including sport terminology, theories of competitive and
cooperative play and philosophical basis and values.  Several units will be
devoted to tournament scheduling procedures.

TEXTBOOK:
Recreational Sports Programming, 3rd Edition, 1995 by Mull, Bayless, Ross
and
Jamieson.  Other assigned readings will be made with the course.

SUMMARY OF THE ASSIGNMENTS:
The course grade will be based on four exams, and the submission of a
program
proposal concerning the program areas of intramural sports, informal sports,
club
sports, fitness and instructional sports.
