Description:
This course will consider a variety of linguistic work that has
sought to delimit the range of variation found in human languages
and to classify languages not in terms of their genetic
relationships, but on the basis of systematic structural
similarities and differences.  We will investigate several
typologically diverse languages in detail, considering their
grammatical systems from both structural and functional points of
view.
