Labor Studies | Common Sense Economics
L290 | 5096 | Duggan

One credit hour; 5:45-8:25 PM Monday; Ballantine Hall 140. This class will
meet March 6-April 17. This short class will give you insight into the main
trends and variables in the US economy, using a political economy approach to
help explain why economics can seem alienating. We will talk about the
growing power of corporations, the international economy, the new local
exchange system (BloomingHOURS), recessions and unemployment, redistribution
through government intervention, and the interest rate--what's behind the
news rhetoric and why are these concepts important for unions and working
people to understand?
