This course will examine the traditional and contemporary approaches to
the study of learning and behavior. Topics include Pavlovian conditioning,
instrumental conditioning, avoidance and punishment, reinforcement and
choice behavior, memory and forgetting, and complex animal cognition. The
focus throughout will be on the theories and empirical findings that
define the field of animal learning. The application of learning theory to
the everyday challenges of our own lives will also be emphasized as we
attempt to understand the causes of human behavior.

Exams and Grades: A definitive exam and grading policy is yet to be
determined. Most likely there will be 4-6 exams, one of which can be
dropped from the final grade calculation. The exams will most likely be a
mixture of short answer, multiple choice, and essay style questions.
