Psychology | Early Mathematical Development
P657 | 3555 | K. Mix

In this seminar, we will survey recent psychological research in
development of number and math concepts. Topics will include
number concepts and calculation in infancy and early childhood,
the relationship between early math concepts and acquisition of
conventional skills, and theories of numerical representation in
children and adults. We may also look at children's use of
manipulatives in school math and number concepts in animals.
We will meet once each week to discuss 2-3 readings on a
particular topic. One ten page paper and an in-class presentation
will be required. The paper can be a library research paper or an
original research project.
