This course is concerned with how the actor works with the concept of ensemble acting. Major emphasis is on moment-to-moment action, as well as on detailed character analysis. Students study and perform characters in realistic scenes from Chekhov, Strindberg, Ibsen, and American playwrights (1945 to the present). We will also read and discuss the different approaches to realistic acting as developed by such acting theorists as Stanislavsky, Boleslavsky, and Strasberg.
