TOPIC: Shop Management

7:00-9:00p TR 3 cr. hrs.

Prerequisite:Consent of the instructor.

This course is intended to help the student prepare to take on the duties of technical director or scene shop foreman in the usual type of educational or regional theatre. Toward this end the course is divided between instruction in organizational methods, personnel management, work scheduling, plant logistics, etc., and an introduction to certain special equipment and advanced shop procedures which are not typically a part of the usual introductory training but which should be at the command of a technical director or shop foreman. Some of the topics covered include: shop resource management, supervising people, scheduling and inventory control, introduction to arc and gas welding procedures and inspection, shop constructed heavy scenic machines, precision layout procedures, drill press set up and metal lathe operation.
