Course description: The study of plants in relation to humans.  Emphasis is
on food plants and their role in shaping human history over the past 10,000
years.

Required text: Heiser, C.B. Jr. 1990. "Seed to Civilization", Harvard
University Press. Diamond, J. 1997. "Guns, Germs and Steel", W.W. Norton &
Company.

Weekly assignments: Two readings, typically fifteen pages each.

Exams/papers: Three exams plus a report and class presentation on the
origin and usage of a particular food plant.
