Topic:  Law and Culture

This year the seminar takes up the double theme of "states and
subjectivities" to explore the relevance of states to ordinary people's
self-identity as citizens and selves.  Readings draw on
new ethnographic scholarship on states, governmentality, social movements
and consciousness. Seminar participants write one article length research
paper on a topic of their choice related to the general theme of the
seminar.
