P: grade of C or better in J502 or equivalent proficiency

This course is designed for advanced students of Japanese.  Students will
read and discuss modern materials selected from the humanities and social
sciences, including a collection of writings on selected individuals who
played a special role in modern Japanese history.  Students will also work
on a research project on a topic of their interest throughout the semester.
At the end of the semester, they will share their work with the class.  This
course is designed to address individual needs and at the same time function
as a class.
