Ethnic American Literature

Ethnic American Literature focuses on selected works by North American ethnic writers, including works by European-America, African-American, Native-American, and Asian-American writers. The course will discuss and define the shifting concept of ethnicity in the Americas and investigate the relationships between ethnicity and history, and ethnicity and gender. A significant amount of reading (mainly novels) will be required. Students will likely write one long essay, a series of response papers, and an in-class midterm and final.
