Open only to M.A. candidates who have been recommended by the Director of Graduate Studies and to Ph.D. candidates, who, for one reason or another, will not have had teaching experience by the end of their work. W501 is a practice-teaching course: a student is accepted by a faculty member who is teaching a composition course as a kind of intern, conducting a few classes, grading some papers, seeing some students, etc. M.A. students should take the course in their second or third semester of study. Once a student has been accepted by a faculty member with whom he/she will work, the student must report the fact to Mr. Williams so that proper records may be kept. The course is not open to students in other departments.
