Topic: Modern Russian History
A portion of the above section reserved for majors

This is a research seminar aimed at writing a research paper based on
primary sources.  Knowledge of Russian required.  Students are
encouraged to come to the first session with a provisional paper topic
on modern Russia and the Soviet Union.  This course pays close
attention to istochnikovedenie, dealing with problems of locating and
analyzing various historical sources (archives, diaries, letters,
memoirs, statistics, oral history, etc.)  It also discusses problems
of historical evidence and historical representation
