This course introduces the basic tools and techniques of linguistic
analysis. Students will be introduced to the basics of phonological
and phonetic theory, morphological analysis, and phrase structure
grammars, and will be expected to apply these tools to various aspects
of various languages. The course will emphasize analytical methods and
problem solving, rather than comprehensive factual knowledge.
