L325 Semantics
Section 8936

Dr. Robert Botne

This class is an introduction to the systematic investigation of
linguistic meaning, that is, the relationship between linguistic form,
its use and interpretation. How do we talk about meaning? What kinds
of meaning are there? Does meaning depend on context? Three broad
areas will constitute the framework for the course: meaning at the
word level (lexical semantics), meaning at the grammatical level, and
meaning derived from context (pragmatics).
