This course is intended to be a basic introduction to Latin American
politics and government.  We will begin with an overview of themes that will
inform our understanding of the case studies that we will be looking at in
the second part of the course.  Topics to be studied will include
revolutions, authoritarianism/redemocratization, and human rights.
