This course will examine the politics of Russia and the other new states of
Eurasia through the lens of a series of pathbreaking new works that have
been published in the field of political science during the past three
years.  These highly acclaimed studies combine a deep knowledge of Russian
language, history and culture with a theoretical orientation, sophisticated
methodology and explicitly comparative perspective.  Students will analyze
and discuss these cutting-edge works (along with selected classic studies),
which address such important topics as the political economy of transitions
from Communist rule, democratization, ethnicity, voting behavior, gender
politics and revolution.
