Sociology | Religion and Society
S313 | 3667 | Marty Laubach

This course will introduce you to the sociological perspective for
studying religion. We will consider a number of questions about the
interactions between religion and society: what is religion? how do
we study it? how has it shaped society? what forms has it taken? what
does it do for us? what happens when religions clash? how is it
continuing to change society? We will conduct a case study of a new
religion, observing its attempts at legitimization and its clash with
dominant religions.
