S335 | 3682 | Robert Soto

The United States is becoming an increasingly diverse nation. Given
this, it is important to gain an understanding of the concepts
involved in race and ethnic relations. What exactly is meant by the
"race" and "ethnicity"? Why is the world population seen as a system
of races and ethnicities and what are the consequences of this
worldview? The class will consist of a multi-racial and multi-ethnic
approach. In order to understand diversity in the United States, one
must gain some understanding of the experience of the various groups
which are referred to as races and ethnicities. The class
requirements include two exams, a term paper and exercises designed to
engage the class material.
