This course explores the history of, and current research on, the
prehistoric peopling of the Americas. Topics include linguistic, geologic,
archaeological and genetic evidence as to the timing, source, and number
of migrations into the Americas, prehistoric population movement within
the Americas, and Siberian prehistory. This is a seminar course with
readings from original research and review articles. The grade will be
based on discussion participation, a class presentation, and a 12-15 page
(15-20 page for grad students) research paper, each worth 1/3 of the final
grade. Prerequisite: B200 or instructor's permission.
