Spanish & Portuguese | Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics

S426 Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics (3 credits)
Prerequisite: S310, or S311, or equivalent
This course introduces the student to the linguistic analysis of the
Spanish language. It examines "Spanish" not as a set of prescriptive
grammar rules to be memorized or accents to be imitated but as
independent as well as interrelated systems and subsystems of
phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. We will examine these
systems from a variety of perspectives: language change, language
variation, and language acquisition.
