3 credits
This course introduces contemporary methods and theory for studying
the sound structure and patterning of the world's languages. Our
description and analysis of sound systems will take advantage of an
interaction with morphology and phonetics. Apart from the readings,
the majority of the work for the course will involve phonological
problem solving and argumentation. The course is designed to be
accessible to students with an interest in any area of language
studies, including language acquisition and disorders, second language
acquisition, language processing, and foreign languages.
