The textbook used is Ann Pale Kreyl by professor Albert Valdman.
Professor Valdman will make periodic visits to contribute to the
students advancement in Creole.
Students in Second semester Haitian Creole finish the last chapters of
the Ann pale kreyòl textbook and read three other Creole texts.
1) Ti Koze Sou Istwa Peyi Dayiti, is a good introduction to the
central events of Haiti's history. 2) Tonton Liben is perhaps the
first Creole peasant novel to be written in Haiti. It provides an
essential look into the trials and courage of the Haitian peasant. 3)
Mèt Larouze is a the Creole adaption of a Haitian-French novel. It
depicts a Haitian peasant's search for water and unity in community.
Analysis of Haitian songs will accentuate learning. Grammar is used
by students as they enact real-life Haitian settings. To further
accomplish this, readings from Creole journalism are used, a module is
reserved for water purification techniques, AIDS prevention. Terms
and ideas from building, nursing, and farming encourage students to
find ways to contribute to Haitian civilization.
There are 2 exams and a final exam. There is 1 essay of 3-5 pages and
1 essay-presentation.
Students from all disciplines are encouraged to enroll in Haitian
