Living-Learning Center | Sources of Resilience
L200 | 8791 | Fritz Lieber

Why are some people resilient in the face of difficult life
cirumstances while others develop maladaptive behaviors? The basic
assumption of this course is that we need to understand more about
people's assets and capabilities rather than their deficiencies and
limitations. The study will involve critical reading, designing, and
presenting a resilience workshop, and reflecting on service and
learning. You will explore your own sources of resilience and
question the viewpoints of others. You will develop a perspective of
the complex ways that individuals cope with their environments and
understand how to promote resilience in individuals and communities.
