Near Eastern Languages and Cultures | Research in Classical Persian Texts
N492 | 3212 | Paul Losensky

A wealth of literary, historical, and religious writing gives the
classical Persian tradition a distinguished place in the record of
human thought and culture. In his course, we will examine certain
aspects of this rich legacy. Students will learn to recognize the few
grammatical and lexical differences that distinguish classical from
modern Persian and will be introduced to some basic research tools
and reference works. Together with selected classical texts, we will
also read some of the related scholarship in modern Persian to help
students develop their overall proficiency in Persian. Readings this
semester will be chosen by the instructor in consultation with the
students and distributed in class. Completion of intermediate Persian
or its equivalent or the special permission of the instructor is a
prerequisite.

Days and Time: Thursday, 2:30 - 5:00.
