American democracy has always been fraught with controversy. This
course seeks to examine multiple sides of historical and contemporary
complex issues. These issues may include, though not necessarily

action, gay rights, the legitimacy of the electoral college, South
African sanctions, women’s rights, and voting rights. This course
seeks to examine the importance of controversies while developing
one’s ability to critically analyze.
