OPEN TO UNDERGRADUATES ONLY

This course will introduce you to the sociological perspective for
studying religion. We will consider a number of questions about the
interactions between religion and society: what is religion? How do
we study it? What forms does it take? What does it do for us? What in
the spiritual experience? How do religions organize? How do they
shape society? What happens when religions clash? How is religion
continuing to change society? We will study a newly developing
religion, observing its attempts at legitimization and its clash with
dominant religions.
