The primary emphasis of the seminar will be an examination/evaluation of
the archaeological data from Siberia, North America and South America that
bear upon the question of the initial colonization of the Americas and the
cultural characteristics of the colonizers. Secondary consideration will
be given to geological-climatological, human biological, and linguistic
data and interpretations that might be relevant (supportive or
non-supportive) of the implications from the archaeological database.
Students will be required to select a topic (primarily archaeological in
nature) relevant to some aspect of this subject, research it, and produce
a 20-30 page paper.
