Course format: Lecture: 2:30P-3:45P, TR, JH 248

Requirements: P:  Biol L473 and L474 (or equivalent) or consent of
instructor.

Course description: Does biodiversity matter?  Analysis of
relationships between biodiversity and ecosystem
functioning.  Emphasis on current literature, including theoretical
and empirical work.  Lectures will alternate with class discussion and
debate.  Greenhouse project and grant proposal developed in special
area of interest.

Required Text: Writing Successful Science Proposals.

Weekly Assignments: Reading and discussion, work on greenhouse
experiments.

Exams/Papers: Journal article synopsis, grant proposal, research
presentation.
