Why is modern art shocking? How did the Renaissance prepare us for
this? This course studies the art of Europe and North America since 1300,
asking questions about the role of women artists, wealthy patrons,
religion and revolution in the history of art.
The format is 2 lectures and 1 discussion section per week.
Discussion groups will emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and there
will be museum visits and campus walks as appropriate.
Grades are based on performance/improvement on exams and in
discussion sections, attitude, and attendance.
