Fine Arts | Van Gogh, Gauguin, and the Origins of Modernism - Art Theory IV
A474 | 2063 | Davezac
This course will study the theories and the works of the Post
Impressionists who turned their backs on Impressionism, accusing them, in
the words of Gauguin, of "neglecting the mysterious centers of thought".
They sought new ways --mystical, religious, symbolic , and devised
quasi-mathematical theories of color, physiognamy and expression with
which to express the new art.
There will be a mid-term and a final exam as well as a paper on a
topic agreed upon by the instructor and the student.
