What does it mean to say that all identity is performative? What are the
implications for the study of recent art? We will approach these questions
through some of the seminal texts of Foucault, Fanon, Lacan, Derrida and
Butler. We will also consider some of the ways their works have been
developed by Kaja Silverman, Mary Kelly, Laura Mulvey, Peggy Phelan and
others.
