Folklore | Hip-Hop Music and Culture
F389 | 2293 | Orejuela
This course examines rap music and hip hop culture as an artistic and
sociological phenomenon with emphasis on its historical and political
contexts. Discussions will include the co-existence of various hip-
hop styles (old and new school), their appropriation by the music
industry, and controversies resulting from the exploitation of hard
core rap as a commodity for national and global consumption. Most
importantly, this course carries culture credit and it is not meant
to be a music appreciation class. A course tutorial is available
