French and Italian | Advanced Grammar and Composition II
F314 | 2376 | Prof. Richard Carr
Pre-requisite: F313. This is the second half of a two-course sequence
devoted to a comprehensive study of French grammar. In order to stress
the written language, the course makes ample use of translation from
English as a means of improving expressive skills in French. Five
readings drawn from modern short fiction are studied for their
language interest and are used as a basis for three compositions
required during the course of the semester. Continued emphasis
upon levels of style in written and oral expression and to the
distinctive differences of usage in French and English.
Required textbooks are Harper's Grammar of French and
Readings and Lessons to Accompany Harper's Grammar of French.
Students should have access to a major French dictionary. A good
English-French dictionary will also be useful.
The course will be conducted in French, as are all courses at this
level. In addition to the three compositions, there will be two
hour-tests and a final examination. Prerequisite in FRIT F313.
