Advanced Carbonate Research (1 cr) S-F grading. A special short course
on the topic of the origin of carbonate rocks. Among the topics
covered will be the following aspects of carbonate sediments and
rocks: chemistry of their formation, origin of cements, origin of
dolomite, trace chemistry,stable isotopic composition, porosity, fluid
inclusions, cathodoluminescence, textures and structures, and changes
through time.  The course will also include a special presentation by
Donald E. Hattin on the origin of chalk. The class will meet for three
weeks in February with three meetings of up to two hours duration
(from 7 to 9 pm). There will be no exams.  To receive an S you must
attend regularly and participate in discussions. The class will meet
on the following dates: Feb. 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, 13, 17, 18, and 20.
