S712	Seminar: Themes in Hispanic Linguistics
Topic: Beyond variation: The sociology of language.

TR 2:30pm – 3:45pm/section #4151/3 cr./Ballantine Hall 011

This seminar is designed to provide students with an overview of
current theory and practice in sociolinguistics. The seminar will
focus on recent research in the areas of language change, language
and gender, code-switching, language contact, bilingualism,
multilingualism, language planning, and language attitudes.  Special
attention will be given to research design and methodologies
commonly use in sociolinguistic studies. Class time will be divided
between lecture, group discussion and student’s presentations.
Students will have the opportunity to write and present a paper
according to their own interests and to apply new techniques learned
in their research.
