V153 Ophthalmic Dispensing
4 credit hours
Instructor: S. Pickel
This course gives students the opportunity to learn a practical skill in one area of optometry or opticianry. Students enjoy "hands-on" instruction involving a variety of activities with spectacle lenses and frames. The course begins with placing eyeglass lenses into frames. Students then learn to adjust different types of frames, and gain experience by practicing on both model heads and on other students in the lab. Helping in the frame selection process requires knowledge of proper frame type, shape, size, and color needed to enhance the wearer's appearance. Additional topics covered in the course include frame and facial measurements, eyeglass prescription ordering, eyewear repair, and types of frame and lens materials needed for specific purposes. No previous experience is necessary and no prerequisites are required.
