R202 | 3762 | McRae

An introduction to the Zen Buddhist traditions of China, Korea, and
Japan, as well as in the modern western world. We will survey the
historical evolution of Zen and discuss its most important themes and
texts, looking at the differing religious impacts of its approach to
Buddhist meditation, the use of inter-personal dialogue as a means of
spiritual cultivation, and its appeal within different cultures both
in outside of Asia.
