Social Work | Family Violence & Child Abuse
S300 | 8939 | Jessica Hersch

This elective social work course examines both research studies and
the service application of knowledge in the field of family violence,
abuse, and neglect. Recent findings from empirical studies are
reviewed and then compared to the beliefs and practices of treatment
and legal services designed to intervene in situations of family
violence. Many examples are drawn from cases and studies of child
sexual abuse. Students are encouraged to develop the ability to use
critical thinking when reviewing theories and practices in the field
of child abuse and family violence. Child abuse, specifically child
sexual abuse, will be covered in more detail than elder abuses and
domestic violence.
