C102 Roman Culture: An introduction to the civilization of Rome under
the Republic and the Empire.  Using literary, documentary and visual
sources, we willexamine public and private life in Rome, considering
politics and its institutions, religious customs and public
entertainments, women and the family, and Romans' expression of their
own ideals in literature, the arts, and philosophy.  We will also
consider the reception of the idea of Rome by later civilizations.
