Communication and Culture | Current Topics: Christian Rhetoric and Human Sexuality
C334 | 1157 | George LaMaster

Contemporary questions surrounding human sexuality have spurred
intense debate in American churches. This course surveys that field
of arguments across theology, politics, and popular culture. We will
investigate the rhetorical strategies embraced by various parties in
the debate. We will discuss how the relationship between different
Christian traditions and the dominant culture constrains the way
people talk about sex. Topics engaged include the ordination of
women, same-sex marriages, family values, and inclusive language.
