“Respecting Diversity in Children and Families” has been chosen as
the special focus of this 3-credit seminar. An interdisciplinary
approach will be adopted to explore current issues and problems in
early childhood education as they relate to various forms of
diversity, to consider societal events of relevance, and to examine
model programs. A significant portion of the course will be devoted
to exploring topics suggested by students. Through course readings,
assignments, and a variety of in-class experiences, students will
have an opportunity to develop a personal perspective about diversity
in American society, and to integrate that perspective with their
philosophy of teaching and professional practice.
