This course is a survey of the visual arts traditions of eastern and
southern Africa, examining architecture, personal arts of the body
and household, religious arts, and contemporary painting and
sculpture.  Emphasis is on the 19th and 20th centuries, but some
earlier traditions, such as Ethiopian Christian art and Swahili
architecture will also be discussed.
