A200 | 2952 | Taysom

In this course we will consider about fifteen American court trials
including the Salem Witch Trials, the Boston Massacre trial, the
Lincoln Conspiracy trial, the Scopes Trial, and the trial of Susan
B. Anthony. We will examine the constitutional background of each
trial, the nature of the alleged crime, and the significance of each
trial in American social, political, and legal history. The course
will also include a study of the history of certain criminal
categories such as “hate crimes” and “crimes committed by reason of
insanity.” The course will require one research paper of 10 to 12
pages, one shorter research paper of about 3 pages, and three
exams.
