This course will explore the role of the brain in behavioral and
cognitive processing. Topics to be covered include the biological
bases of sensation, movement, perception, attention, learning and
memory, motivation and emotion, and neural and psychological
pathologies. The format for the course is a mixture of lectures (to
gain some background information), class discussion, computer
simulations/exercises, a class project, and student presentations. A
primary textbook will be used in the class along with current primary
readings of neuroscience research literature. Final grades will be
based on exams, a required paper, class presentations, and student
participation.
